| Bio: | This is the new home of Marigold's Tale Challenges. All previous stories will eventually be accessible from this site, and all new Challenges will be posted here. The Challenges are administered monthly - Marigold and Llinos now take turns in assigning the starters. The Challenge is posted on or about the first weekend of every month and everyone is welcome to participate! The only stipulation is that your stories must be hobbity! Here are the official guidelines: Welcome to the Tale Challenges! We are Marigold and Llinos, hosts of the Challenges. You can reach Marigold at MarigoldCotton@aol.com and Llinos at LizaLlinos@aol.com. You should also friend both of our LJ’s if you haven't yet so as not to miss any updates – marigoldg and llinos. Stories from Tale Challenge #41 onward are now hosted on the Tale Challenge Archive. Challenges prior to #41 can be accessed from Marigold’s Recommendations Page, but hopefully you will soon be able to access them from the Challenge Archive. Challenges will be posted on the first weekend of each month, or if the first weekend is at the very beginning of the month, the Challenge will be posted on the second weekend, to allow folks plenty of writing time. Some Challenges will simply have themes, but most will also include elements or starting lines or specific characters that must be included, assigned specifically to each author. We both try to make each Challenge distinctive from the ones that have gone before, although occasionally an especially liked Challenge theme might be repeated. Themes are announced on Marigold’s Recommendations Page and LJ on the last weekend of each month – for example, the theme for August would be announced the last weekend of June, the theme for December would be announced on the last weekend of October, etc… Now for the rules – there aren’t very many. The main rule is that your story must include hobbits – they don’t have to be the central characters but one or more hobbits must appear in your story. Next, Challenge stories should not be posted elsewhere until the Monday after the Challenge is posted. They must remain exclusive to the Archive for the Challenge Weekend. After that you may post your story wherever you wish, but please include in your Author’s Notes that the story was written for Marigold’s Challenge #__ so we can attract more readers and participants. Stories can be any length or rating. Be sure to include any warnings that you think might be applicable, for example character death or slash. Stories of more than one chapter can be posted either all at once or in monthly instalments, just so long as each instalment conforms to the theme and any assigned elements for that particular month. Please submit your story as a Word document if at all possible, or in the body of an e-mail, but if you need to submit it in any other format we will do our best to work with it. There is no need to html code your stories as LJ now picks up things like bold and italics automatically. Please submit your story just as soon as it is finished as we get a lot of submissions in the couple of days before the Challenge is to be posted. Depending upon time constraints, we both do our best to beta each story for canon, grammar, Americanisms and the like. We will send the betaed document back to you to accept or reject any changes, then you simply send the corrected document back to us for posting to the Challenge Archive. If we beta your story please give us credit when posting your story elsewhere. If you haven’t finished your story by the time the Challenge is posted we are still happy to post it late, even with the stories of a later Challenge. Hopefully you will want to read and comment on the other Challenge stories and to answer the comments on your own, but this is not compulsory of course. And that’s it!
